Prysmian manufactures submarine cables up to 500 kV according to the needs of
the customer.
Normal water tight cables e.g. Wiski cable can be installed under water but when
the cable must withstand well mechanical stress for example against under water or
propeller currents, cables with steel wire armouring must be used. They are designed to carry
mechanical stress during the installation and use, such as cables for wind farms.
Submarine cables can be manufactured also with optical unit for data
transmission, e.g. the 110 kV submarine cable between Sweden and Åland.
